Club Hope

CLUB HOPE: October 2022

Club Hope this weekend was amazing — we hosted kids from all over the city for lunch, an impactful lesson time with Erika, and a super special craft project for this month’s workshop! The kids made daily plan boards that have different verses about how much God loves them to read and pray about every day. We are so thankful for these families that the Lord has connected to our ministry!

Shoutout to Tracy Nault for providing a delicious lunch! Thank you also to First Baptist Church for making van transportation possible this month. Thank you to Raquel, Inna, Kate, Sophie, Cheryl, Laura, Eliza, Dave and Gail for volunteering!

CLUB HOPE: May 2022

Club Hope this month was amazing! Check out this month’s recap video.

Our kids had a yummy lunch and learned more from Erika during chapel time about how to be a part of God’s family, what it means to follow Jesus and how He takes perfect care of them. Our workshop on Saturday was led by Leah and Kate: all about following Jesus! All the kids had so much fun. Our older girls’ group learned about how God’s Word is a love story—written just for them!

We are so thankful to our amazing team of volunteers. THANK YOU Tammy, Raquel, Ina, Kate, Leah, Nicholas, Tracy, Karen, John, Elizabeth, Laura, and Eliza for helping out this month in so many ways.

CLUB HOPE: April 2022

April’s Club Hope was a super-special Easter event! We had kids join us from all over the city—super thankful to John, Andrew, Tammy and Raquel for being our transportation team this month! This month we had a pizza lunch, learned about God’s amazing rescue plan, broke into small groups, and planted marigolds! Our teen girls’ group learned about Psalm 23 and how God always cares for us. It is such a blessing to spend time with these kids speaking Jesus’ love into their lives.

Thank you to our incredible team of volunteers and prayer supporters: we couldn’t do this without you!

Special thanks to Diane Lyons and New Day Church for donating copies of The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross activity books for our kids this Easter!

Next week we look forward to partnering with Springfield Rescue Mission to give away Easter meals to our families. Please be praying that the Lord uses this opportunity to bring the true meaning of His power, love and resurrection into their lives!

CLUB HOPE: March 2022

Club Hope on March 26 was incredible! Check out the recap video and photo gallery below.

We had kids from all over the city join us at our building for lunch, an impactful Bible time, and a workshop time. This month, kids heard the next part of Erika’s story all about how to come to the Lord in prayer and find Him as their hiding place. They created dioramas in workshop time that reminded them that they can imagine sitting right next to Jesus when they talk to Him—He is with them always! It was awesome to see the kids listening intently and interacting through the story!

We also started a new group just for our teen girls who have been coming to Hope for Kids for years and are now out of the under-12 age range! We made lattes together and talked about the story of why Jesus came to save us. Our prayer for this new teen time is that it would be an open space for conversations and finding the true hope of the Gospel. applied to exactly where they are in life.

Another highlight was having a family of five and their three cousins decide to come to Club at the very last minute! They are super special to us and it was a huge blessing to us that they were there.

We also had six moms stay during the event while their kids participated! Three of them stayed after and prayed with our staff and volunteers, and two of them brought Bibles home with them. Please be praying for the Lord to work in these families! It was beautiful to see volunteers praying and encouraging mothers who stayed.

It was also so special to see kids who were 5 or 6 when Hope for Kids began, now in their teens and bringing their younger siblings to Club Hope. We pray there will be many more years where we are able to consistently bring Jesus to these families and see His work in their life come full circle!

We need to give a huge shoutout to Tammy for driving a 15-passenger van to make pickups! Transportation for all of our North End families is always a pressing need and this was such an incredible blessing. Thank you also to Janet for a delicious lunch! And thank you to Raquel, Tracy, Taisha, Enith and Nyasia for coming out to volunteer. We had a small group of volunteers this month and 31 KIDS from all over the city! Everyone worked together as a team to serve our kids and it was an awesome day.

Looking forward to our next event coming up very soon on April 9! Because of the postponed March date, our next event is already just a week from Saturday. If you would like to sign up to help at our April event, please click here!

Three ways Club Hope connects our kids to Jesus

Club Hope is an event designed for kids ages 4-12 that takes place every month at Hope for Kids. Kids from all over inner-city Springfield come to our building for lunch, chapel time and a lifeskills workshop. Our vision for each one of these events is ultimately to connect these precious kids to the Lord and His love for them, meeting a spiritual need through a physical context.

Three ways Club Hope connects our kids to Jesus:

01. Physical relief: Our kids (and volunteers) always enjoy a yummy lunch as soon as they arrive! Food is always a part of Hope for Kids events.

02. Authentic relationships: Upon arrival, kids are assigned a small group. Each group has at least one small group leader and small group helper—volunteers who spend the entirety of Club Hope getting to know their kids, assisting them as they move through different activities, praying with them and intentionally building into them. Relationships are the heart of Hope for Kids and we are so thankful for our volunteers who share Jesus’ love with these kids.

03. Spiritual renewal: Chapel time is when we share as much of God’s Word with our kids as we can. It’s a fun, fast-paced time where our whole group sings praise songs and hears a Bible lesson or story taught by one of our staff members, including a clear Gospel teaching. After our main chapel time, the kids break into small group time with their leaders and apply what they’ve learned to right where they are in life. Bible memory is also a part of small group time—God’s Word is powerful and we know these verses can stay with them long after they leave Club Hope!

Our vision is to see every child we help transformed by the message of hope - the Gospel - and ultimately becoming leaders who positively impact their own communities for the good of others and the glory of God.

CLUB HOPE | FEBRUARY 2022

CLUB HOPE | February 2022

On Saturday, we hosted this month’s Club Hope event! We had a full house: kids from all over Springfield joined us at the Mission. Thank you so much to all of our drivers and van helpers—with your help, we were able to make pickups from many different neighborhoods this month! We had a delicious lunch (thank you to everyone who was a part of making that happen!) and our kids got to be a part of an amazing chapel time. They heard an original story written by Erika, all about two twins who go on a scavenger hunt to learn about God’s perfect love that casts out fear! Then we learned how donuts are made, decorated our own donuts and made valentines for friends and family that said “donut forget God loves you”. Such a fun day!

Please keep these kids in your prayers through this month. Club Hope always gives us a chance to hear how kids are doing and pray over needs in their lives. Pray that God will remind them of His love as they walk through whatever circumstances they may be in—He is with them always!

CLUB HOPE | JANUARY 2021

Photos from this past Saturday's event! This month our kids learned about the story of David, and in our lifeskills time they learned about snails and made their own slime. So much fun—we are so thankful for the opportunity to see our kids at Club Hope every month! Thank you so much to all of our amazing volunteers, and thank you to the Manzis for a delicious lunch!

Sharing Hope: Mariah's Story

"This past Club Hope has to be one of the best Club Hopes I’ve ever been too. Not much had changed. There was nothing new to add the the agenda. No crazy behavior other than kids being kids. But for me this was so altering for my heart. God had been preparing me for this club beforehand.

2 FEB 2018-174.jpg

You see, I have this tendency to go to Club Hope with a certain agenda and expectations. I’m going to make sure the kids aren’t too crazy and the behavior is always controlled. I’m going to dig deep into the personal stuff and pull out what’s been going on. (Lots of pride from me huh?)
But a friend of mine sent me a verse that God was stirring in my heart: 'How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?' (‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

I had been doing that a lot lately and not even realizing it. I would go in and try to do things by my own effort and walk away frustrated or disconnected or both.

Today was different.

1 JAN 2018-39.jpg

Today I came and I just wanted to love the kids. I didn't want to change behaviors or force conversation. I just wanted to understand where they were at. I just wanted to love them with no expectations in return. It seems simple but sometimes life and your own plans have a way of complicating things and missing the whole point.

There was one girl in particular - one I met at Impact Clubs this year. I was the one who went to her house and found her family and brought them. She remembered me when I didn't remember her. She just slid up next to me and hugged me. And when I realized who she was, it was like God was showing me how much He's still using me even when I forget or get caught up in little things. Her face was just so glad to see me and be near me. It was like I understood what God wants from us. I was just really humbled today.

Day1-15.jpg

The story doesn’t end there.

During group time they made me almost cry. At one point one of the girls started talking about fear and how she gets that feeling of fear like someone is walking behind her waiting to attack her but in reality there is no one there. A lot of the other girls agreed. And so I asked them what they did to make the fear go away. Some said think positive or think other thoughts. I asked them what happens when that didn't work? They just said they stayed afraid.

As I kept questioning them, I asked them, "what do we actually do for you? Why are you here? What’s the point of you being here? Sure we provide a safe place for now but what happens when you go back home? What do you get here that you bring back home?" (My tone was forceful, almost accusative because I wanted them to understand that I wanted real answers--not just answers they'd think I'd like.)

2 FEB 2018-60.jpg

One girl answered "You give us hope."

My heart just broke. Like wow. Hope. Real tangible hope. Real truth. That no matter what God is always with them. God is powerful and true. That they can believe that no matter what comes their way. That God sees EVERYTHING that is happening in their lives. He see all the pain and sorrow and moments that life brings and he CARES. He cares about them so much and they can believe that.

I told them all of that and it's so crazy to be privileged to be the one to declare these truths to them. They just let me speak and they even gave their feedback but ultimately today they just needed to know God cares.

It’s so simple that it’s easy to miss. I’m so glad I put my perspective right so I didn’t miss it.

Event Hope: Valentine's Day

Our Valentines Day Club Hope event this past Saturday was a huge success thanks to the teamwork of our amazing volunteers! A special thanks to Rachel LaFlamme for decorating Valentines cookies and Bethlehem Church for providing gift bags for the kids to hand out to their moms!
